When I Grow Up

After I graduate from UOIT, I would like to receive my master’s degree at Ryerson University, and become an adult nurse practitioner. This is because in most provinces in Canada, legislated NP’s (nurse practitioners) have more responsibilities and duties and are able to diagnose many disorders, prescribe medications, order diagnosis, and refer patients to specialists (Alden-Bugden, 2008). As well, I would like to take care of patients who are in the intensive care unit and are experiencing life threatening diseases. This is because I love taking care of people when they are feeling sick and patients in the ICU need the most and complex care. Lastly, I love new challenges and someday I hope to change someone’s life.

I actually feel the same way too. I plan on becoming a practitioner as well because I have more control over what I can do to help patients. But I would like to travel overseas, and become a nurse in England. I'll end up taking and english exam, go through a 20 day period of supervision but I think it'll be worth it. PLUS, they have free health care. You walk out with money!? hahahaha but yea.. I also was thinking of specializing in medical surgery but not entirely sure yet.

Wow. I applaud you for wanting to become a nurse practitioner. That is way too much school for me.I am already looking forward to these four years to be over with, not to mention another few years to get my MD. Great Job! ICU, you say? I think I might go in into orthopaedics or spinal cord rehabilitation.
